Crowns & Bridges
Do you have a weak or broken tooth that’s at risk? What about a chipped tooth or a gap in your smile? Dental crowns and bridges can help bring your smile back to life and improve the integrity of your teeth. Our doctors use the best techniques, materials and work with exceptionally skilled lab technicians in order to restore the overall health and appearance of your teeth. Crowns and bridges are both in-office procedures that don’t require long recovery times or invasive procedures.
Dental crowns
Crowns are metal, porcelain, resin, or ceramic, protective covers that go over a damaged tooth that has experienced trauma or root infection. Each crown is custom-made to look similar to the adjacent teeth and fit comfortably within your bite.
Crowns can be a recommended treatment for both restorative and cosmetic dentistry. Its purpose is to absorb impact during chewing and biting and acting as a buffer that protects the damaged tooth.
A crown can conceal a number of issues, including:
- Cracks or chips
- Misshapen teeth
- Gaps
- Stains
Bridges
A bridge fills the gap for one to two missing teeth. (If you have more than 2 missing teeth in a row, a partial denture may be a better treatment option for you.) Unlike dentures, a bridge is not removable. It consists of at least two crowns that fit over teeth on either side of the gap.
Bridges have many benefits aside from restoring the look of your smile. They include:
- Speaking and chewing with ease
- Maintain the alignment of your teeth
- Evenly distributes your bite
- It’s permanent and stays in place
